What is the store?
All 5-Star Students subscriptions include access to the online store feature. Sites can use this tool to sell event tickets (to students and staff) and/or items to all website visitors. Each school is assigned a unique web address that they can share with their students, staff, and community.
How it works
In order to purchase an event ticket or item, students and staff must sign in using their credentials (i.e. ID and last name) to verify that they are eligible to purchase the selected item. The system will reference any grade level specifications or no privilege restrictions.
For an event, the school administrators can add (or upload) approved off-campus guests that are attached to the student. When the student signs in to purchase, they will be able to select their ticket and their guest's ticket. Students CANNOT add their own guests.
Once the purchase is complete, the customer will be emailed a receipt and the sale will be logged automatically in 5-Star, as a ticket or item sale.
Students and staff will only need their ID card to check into the event. No formal ticket is required. Visitors that purchase items will need to complete the form that requires their name and email address. Administrators can use the item pick-up page to distribute purchases.
Payment Processing
5-Star Students uses Stripe to process all credit card charges; therefore, 5-Star does not store any credit card data.
Convenience fees
There is a convenience fee ($0.30 + 4.5% per transaction) that is passed along to the customer by default. Schools have the option to disable the fee for customers and the fees will be deducted from the total proceeds when the funds are shared.
Proceeds
Schools have two options to receive their sale proceeds:
- E-check - the school will need to fill in the contact information for the e-checks. 5-Star processes checks once/week. If the school is selling event tickets, 5-Star will wait until sales have closed to send all proceeds, unless requested directly by the school. This allows the school to process any refunds, if necessary. Once the funds have been shared, they will not be able to perform a credit card refund and will have to handle it internally.
- Direct deposit through Stripe - schools can connect their Stripe account within 5-Star and set up how often they would like their funds deposited into the connected account.
