The staff roster has many similiarities to the student roster. Individuals on the staff roster can be checked into events, earn points and redeem points for rewards. In addition, staff members can be assigned to classes, interventions and flex sessions.
The staff roster is populated via district data sync for many schools. Most staff received via this method are teachers and not adminstrators or other support personnel.
Staff members can also be added manually by school managers, individually or via file upload. A schools can therefore add-on to the existing roster of teachers or completely manage the entire staff roster if data integration is not available.
Users are individuals that have a 5-Star Students account with "access" to perform actions; like issue hall passes, award points, or check-in students (and staff). There are different levels of access (i.e. roles) so a given user can receive the mininum set of permissions determined by school managers.
One common misconception is that a staff member is also a user. While this is true most of the time, in some situations not all staff members require an account. In addition, there may be users that are not associated with the school directly (i.e. district personnel, etc). In this case, they have a user account but are not on the staff roster.
During district data syncs, any rostered staff members receive a provisioned user account if one doesn't already exist. By default, a newly provisioned user account will have a "No Access" role. In this case, a school manager will need to assign the appropriate access level before the account can be used. The school can also decide on a different access role to apply to new staff members that will provide immediate access.
When adding a staff member manually, the school manager can choose to add user access at the same time.
Lastly, users that are also staff members will be able to view assignments to classes, interventions or flex sessions after logging into 5-Star Students. For the typical teacher, this means they can quickly access revelant areas (i.e. their classes, interventions or flex sessions) making the overall experience better.
